Self- Development through Sport

On the Monday morning we set out for Mikolongwe secondary school to begin training the students and teachers in self-development through education and sport. We began by introducing ourselves to the students and teachers and telling them what the aim of the course was. We discussed how through the course of the week we would be teaching games that had certain health messages attached to them. All students and teachers seemed enthusiastic and keen to learn. We then covered two games with them: The Group Knot and Dragon Tail. The message with the group knot was to listen to each other and work together. The message that accompanied Dragon Tail is to protect each other.

For the rest of the week,  we visited various primary schools in the morning and in the afternoons we went back to Mikolongwe secondary school to further develop the student’s knowledge of the course. During the course of the week we taught games with health messages to over 700 primary school children and 42 secondary school students. In all cases, we wanted the children to go back to their schools and train the teachers and younger students the games and the messages that accompanied them.

It was clear that all children and coaches enjoyed the training and we are happy that the students understood the games and the meanings behind them and that they will share them with others. We hope that these games will give the students an extra piece of knowledge in relation to self-development and that they will assist them in making better choices in life.
