Here is a brief outline of how the future of destitute orphans can be improved by the unique model that is Nyumbani Village outside Nairobi.
EDUCATION - GATEWAY TO HOPE FOR THE FUTURE
This year Nyumbani Village Primary School is presenting 49 candidates, all orphans, for the End-of-Primary examination. 32 have been with us for over a year while the other 17 have just come to the Village. Had these children not come to Nyumbani Village, the chances are that they would not be sitting this examination, since all had been ‘left behind' when their parents passed away and have been struggling to survive on their own or with a destitute, aged grandparent This examination is the gateway to hope for the future since one's results will depend on acceptance into Secondary Education. This group of 49, however, have new hope for their educational future since we are opening a Secondary School in the Village in 2010. As they watch the building going up - 4 classrooms, 2 science laboratories, a library with computer laboratory and an administration block, as they witness desks and chairs being made in our polytechnic, see the Sister Principal and her companion planning for the opening of the school - buying text books, seeing to uniform, they know that excellence in education will be available for them. We pray and hope with them that each one will get the grades to join Lawson High School, Nyumbani Village in 2010.
